Please Help Mend a Friend…

Stumbles is a super friendly young male cat that was hit by a car in Yorktown.  Animal Care and Control rushed him to the SPCA, and our Veterinarian, Dr. Caulfield, found that he had a fractured pelvis and front arm. Poor Stumbles was still so well behaved even though he was clearly in pain. The pelvis will heal on its own however the front arm required surgery.  Thanks to South Salem Animal Hosital, Stumble’s had fracture repair surgery and is now healing. Brad the cat is also recovering from much needed surgery. Brad arrived with a horribly infected embedded collar, something we see happen with dogs more often than cats. As you can see from Brad's bright green cast, he is on his way to a speedy recovery and is healing wonderfully! He and Stumbles are best of friends now and are cat mates. Brad is also patiently awaiting his forever home. Won’t you please donate to our Mend a Friend Fund to help offset some of the cost? Any amount is greatly appreciated!

Stumbles still needs a home. Despite his injuries he is as sweet as can be, LOVES his food and even makes muffins with his broken legs. He will make for a loyal, loving companion.

Our sweet Betty has been living at the shelter for a little over 2 years. This young boxer mix has a lot of energy and unfortunately, due to jumping around in her dog run while playing, she tore her ACL. Betty had surgery a few weeks ago and is healing wonderfully! She has been living in a foster home and they can’t say enough good things about her! She is calm in the home, hasn’t had one accident and just loves lying on her bed with her chew toy. However, Betty truly needs a permanent home so that she doesn’t reinjure herself.

Won’t you please consider giving Betty the home she deserves or donate to our Mend a Friend Fund to offset some of the costs of her surgery? Betty would do best in a home with adults and no cats.

Rescued Puppy Brings Holiday Joy to Special Child

Young Boy’s Wish Comes True; Family Adopts Puppy from SPCA of Westchester Transport

Briarcliff Manor, December 2011
Ten-year-old Sean DePatto of Garnerville, NY, wanted one thing more than anything else for Christmas this year: a puppy from the SPCA of Westchester. The young boy who receives chemotherapy treatments several times a week for leukemia, had spotted the puppy on the shelter’s website. “Prince”, an adorable 12 week old shepherd mix, had been rescued from a high-kill shelter (thanks to Homeward Bound Rescue of Mississippi) along with his sibling and transported to the SPCA for adoption. Sean’s parents contacted the SPCA and asked if they could adopt Prince. “We were delighted to help this family make Sean’s dream come true,” said Lisa Bonanno, Development Manager and transport coordinator for the SPCA. “So many people in the community were excited about surprising Sean with the puppy.” The Garnerville Fire Department assisted with presenting Prince to his new best friend. Family and friends gathered to share the DePatto’s celebration as the furry, squirming Prince was placed in Sean DePatto’s waiting arms. “The family couldn’t be happier and we are so thankful to have been a part of this special day.”
